Britta “Bibi” Kotlikoff passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, January 26, 2025 in Charleston, SC.
Born and raised in Sweden, Bibi first arrived to the South Jersey area as an au pair. During this time she met her future husband, Louis Jacob Kotlikoff, to whom she married a few years later. Together they raised their three daughters Annika (George) Raroha, Lara (Frank) Kotlikoff, an Diana (Dan) Dupuis in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
During her twenty-two years in the area Bibi enjoyed raising her girls and volunteering at the American-Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia alongside many of her friends.
In 1992, she and Lou moved to Sarasota, Florida where they enjoyed entertaining friends at their home on Little Sarasota Bay.
Bibi remained in Sarasota after Lou’s death in 2005 for several years before moving to South Carolina to be near her daughter, Diana.
In South Carolina, Bibi was able to enjoy time with her four grandchildren. Lara’s sons Alec and Ian Mayhugh (20) were able to visit her from Richmond, VA and she was there for Diana’s children, Ryan (9) and Arden (6), as newborns and watched them grow.
She will forever be remembered for being kind, sweet, and beautiful inside and out. She also harbored an incomparable inner strength that rightfully earned her the nickname The Fighting Viking by her daughters and witnessed by Matrina Wright, her caregiver of many years.
Those she leaves behind will miss her tremendously.
A graveside ceremony at Locustwood Memorial Park in Cherry Hill will be held on February 15 at 11 AM. The family invites you to share your memories at an informal gathering at Annika and George's home following the service. Refreshments and lunch fare will be served. Please join us for one or both events.
In lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American-Swedish Historical Museum.
