Mathew Stewart, who was born in Wilmington NC passed away on June 1, 2018 at home in James Island
He was a First Baptist School of Charleston alumni.
Matthew, an accomplished pro level motorcycle racer, was the park pro at Durhamtown Plantation, Ga, where he helped train many kids to ride safely and improve their riding skills. He was the assistant manager of the Broad River Adventure Park (BRAP) complex in Oglethorpe County, Ga.
Matt’s vision and hard work reconstituted Battery Park Motorcycle Facility and resulted in the development of one of the premiere off-road facilities in the entire southeast. He was a lifelong member of the Family Riders Motorcycle Club.
He enjoyed his most recent work as the chief estimator for Landscape Pavers LLC in Charleston.
He touched so many lives with his infectious smile and sense of humor and his life has served to enrich everyone who had the good fortune to call him a friend.
Matthew’s immediate surviving family includes his parents Charles M Stewart and Dawn Culpepper Stewart. He had two brothers Mike Stewart and Mark Stewart along with their sister Melissa Stewart
He was adored by his two nephews Charlie Stewart (Melissa) and Sullivan Stewart (Michael).
Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Thomas M and Iva Ree Stewart of Charleston and his maternal grandparents C D Culpepper and Margaret Hiott Culpepper of Walterboro SC.
He loved his extended family and was blessed with many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Family visitation is scheduled for Tuesday June 5, 2018 at the family home from 6 PM until 8 PM.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Matt’s life at the First Baptist Church of Charleston, SC at 11:00 AM with a time of remembrance and viewing immediately prior to the service. Immediately prior to the service, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, the family will receive friends for a visitation and viewing at the church.
Private Interment and graveside service will be at Sandy Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Hampton SC on Thursday.
