Frances B. Simmons, 94, of Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at home.
She lived a full, vibrant life entertaining family and friends with her larger-than-life personality. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She spent her free time boating the waterways of Charleston and the Ashepoo River. She was known for her home cooking where everyone was welcome to her table and those who entered as guests left as friends. You knew you were someone special if your picture made it on her wall of fame. She had a special way of making you laugh. She had a saying for everything and everyone. There wasn’t a wedding she was invited to that she missed. She never met a stranger and everyone who met her was better for it. Live Love Laugh wasn’t just a saying on her necklace. It was her way of life.
She was born October 10, 1928, in Charleston, the daughter of the late Eddie and Loretta Bowick of James Island.
Frances, as she was affectionately known was a graduate of Bishop England High School. She was a regular performer with the Pilot Club, Traynor Ferrilo's Fun Shows, at the Dock Street Theatre for many years.
Frances is survived by her brother’s Michael Bowick (Linda), Patrick Bowick (Donna) and her sister Helen Hecker (Willie) her children Artie Simmons (Debbie), Bobby Simmons, Sally Simmons, Cindy Simmons and Kim Simmons. Her grandchildren Heather Simmons Harwell (Matthew), Trae' Simmons, Carly Simmons Mros (Bryan), Her Great grandchildren Brent Harwell, Jacob Simmons, and Briar Mros.
There will be a visitation at McAlister - Smith Funeral & Cremation on James Island from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, May 19th.
