Gayle Lewis Grayson of Hanahan, aged 77 years, died on August 9, after a brief illness. Gayle was born in Perry, Georgia, to the late Grady Eugene Lewis and Maude Hamby Lewis. She graduated from Valdosta State College and earned her master's degree in education from N.C. State University. She taught for many years in Charleston area schools, including RD Schroder Middle, Morningside Middle, Brentwood Middle, School of the Arts, and Berkeley Middle. She was a generous person and was always willing to help others. In retirement, she volunteered at local hospices and nursing homes. She was also a loyal friend and teacher to adults with special needs.
Her survivors include her children Lee (Jennifer) Grayson of Charleston and Marie Grayson of Summerville; brother Charles Lewis of Perry; grandchildren Ivy, Justice, Kayden, Nicholas, and Willy; and great-granddaughter Kaylani. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alan and her sister Nancy (John) Self.
A celebration of life will be held at New Life Church, 111 Old Moncks Corner Road, Goose Creek, on August 26 at 11am. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.
