George June Boan WALTERBORO - George June Boan passed away peacefully on June 5, 2015 in Walterboro, SC. He was born on November 30, 1928 in Manning, SC, the second of 5 children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Georgia Boan and by his sisters Betty and brothers Edward and Charles Ray and by his friend Bill. He is survived by his sister Barbara Jean Geddings and his sister-in-law, Frances Boan, both of Manning SC. George served in the Korean Conflict on Guam. He graduated from Columbia University as an architect and helped design several iconic buildings in New York City. He also had his own antique store in New York City. He loved the arts and the theater. He returned to Charleston where he restored a townhouse and worked with the Charleston Historical Society and was a docent at Drayton Hall. He was a firm believer in the concept of historical preservation. He further started his own well-respected private Charleston tour guide service in the city that he truly loved. He was a proud member of the Huguenot French Protestant Church, the Huguenot Society and the First Families of South Carolina. George was a dog person and he loved each and every one of his dogs whole-heartedly. They were his best friends. All but one were Bassett Hounds and Beau Drayton was his most famous companion. He was memorialized on a tee shirt at Drayton Hall. They spent each day there working together, giving tours and educating the public. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
