Mrs. Gerda Philippsthal Hall died peacefully on September 14, 2015, in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, at the age of 86. Gerda is survived by her daughter, Paula Gregg and her husband, Walt, of Columbia, SC; her daughter Nancy Amos of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her grandchildren, Boyd Gregg and his wife Paige of Daniel Island, SC, Will Gregg and his wife Alicia, of Daniel Island, SC, Lauren Hamill and her husband, Robert, of Raleigh, NC, and Stephen Gregg, of Daniel Island, SC; and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Robert Hall, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and her daughter, Cynthia Hall Drews, of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Gerda was born on December 4, 1928 in Berlin, Germany to Arno and Frida Philippsthal. She graduated from the College of Charleston in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She also received a Masters in Education from the Citadel. She married Samuel Robert Hall, Jr., in 1950. She was a teacher for Charleston County School District and spent most of her teaching career at Sullivan's Island Elementary before retiring. She was an active member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Her passion for gardening led her to become a Master Gardner. She was very dedicated to her family and was always a cheerful spirit. The love and guidance that she gave is an inspiration to all who knew her. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday September 18th, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gerda's life.
