Harold W. Jacobs, 91, passed away on the evening of December 2, 2014 in Charleston, S.C. surrounded by his family. Harold was born to the late Edith and Theodore Jacobs in Kingstree, S.C. on June 5, 1923. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jacqueline E. Jacobs, 3 children, Patricia Lipe, Janet Bex, & James Jacobs, all of Charleston, his sister Rose Webster of Darlington, S. C., 7 grand children and 6 Great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Bishop Gadsden Chapel, James Island,S.C. at 1:00 pm on Friday December 5. Harold attended Clemson University and the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated in 1945. He first served on Destroyer duty, became a Naval Aviator, and an instructor at the Naval Academy until serious injury in a plane crash ended his career in the Navy in 1957. While recovering from his injuries, Harold attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1960. Mr. Jacobs had a long and successful career practicing law in Columbia, S.C. with the firm now known as Nexsen/Pruet. He had bar admissions for South Carolina, U.S. District Court of South Carolina, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, And the United States Supreme Court. During his career he served as President of the S.C. Bar and the S.C. Trial Lawyers Association, Chairman of the S.C. Supreme Court Commission on Character and Fitness, as well other activities to help promote the legal profession. In 2013 Mr. Jacobs was awarded the Durant Distinguished Public Service Award, the most prestigious statewide award the S.C. Bar can bestow on a fellow attorney. Mr. Jacobs was also active in his community and church, serving as senior warden on the vestry of Saint Michael's and all Angels Episcopal Church in Columbia, the S.C. Higher Education Commission, and the Patriots point Commission. In 2003 Harold and Jackie moved to the Bishop Gadsden community in Charleston where he resided until his passing.
