Joan Elizabeth (Ash) Herncane, age 65, having bravely and defiantly fought cancer for 19 months, passed in her sleep early Thursday, April 25. She was born, one of 4 children, on March 19, 1954 in Boston, Massachusetts to Anne (“Tig”) Kellogg and Alan Ash.
She earned a reputation of loving life and speaking her mind. She and James Davis raised two children, Zoe (Davis) Roff and Zeth Davis. She never met a stranger. “Joanie” loved a good story and a good chat sometimes over a rousing game of cards. She was a phenomenal cook, loved to make and give jewelry, and crochet blankets and hats which she always gave to others. Joanie passed on her gregarious charm to both her children; Zoe, affable and tender-hearted, and Zeth, fervid and generous. She was particularly fond of her son-in-law, Shamus Roff and over-the-moon for her one grandson, Aidan. Joanie loved deeply: her friends, her family, and life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alan Ash, her mother, Anne (Kellogg) Cramer, and her husband, Lee Herncane. Joanie is survived by her siblings Alison Slow Loris, Peter Ash and Alexandra (Ash) O’Conner, her daughter Zoe (Davis) Roff, son-in-law Shamus Roff, her son Zeth Davis and her grandson Aidan Roff.
