Joe Gibbs Jr.

Joe Gibbs, 89, of Hanahan, SC passed away peacefully at Hospice of Charleston on February 26, 2016. Joe was the husband of the late Frances Elliott Gibbs. He is survived by two children, his son, DeForest Gibbs and his wife, Sherryl Turner; and daughter, Rochelle Gibbs Garvin and husband, Edward Earl Garvin of Greenville; three grandchildren, Tradd Ashley Gibbs and wife, Angie, Berkeley Gibbs Stewart and husband, Chris, and Stephanie Lorraine Gibbs; and four great-grandsons, Sturlin Richards, Joshua Cade Gibbs, Cannon Turner Gibbs, and his latest great-grandson, 2-month-old Christopher Gibbs Stewart. Joe was born on June 17, 1926 in Hyman, SC, son of Joe Gibbs and Rintha Hutchinson Gibbs. Joe was an electrician in the United States Navy for 2 years of active duty. He became an electrician at Westvaco, where he retired as Maintenance Planner after 27 years of service. Joe loved most to spend time with his family and was a proud great-grandfather. Prior to his battle with dementia, at 71 years of age, he made a motorcycle trip alone across the United States. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, playing checkers with his great-grandsons, working in his garage and working on his beloved 1966 Mustang. He enjoyed many years with his Jack Russel, Dipper, a loyal companion. Arrangements for Joe’s memorial are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.
