John Arthur Roberts

John Arthur Roberts of Moncks Corner, SC (formerly of Columbia and Charleston) passed away at age 75 on Saturday, September 30, 2023 in Charleston, SC. He was born on May 3, 1948 in Charleston, SC to the late Marie LaRoche Roberts and John Fount Roberts.

He was a student at Porter Military School and Rivers High School. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1971. After college, he was a distinguished member of the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany for the majority of his military service. After serving in the Army for 3 years, he returned to the University of South Carolina for his Master's degree.

John loved teaching and he was an elementary school teacher for 30 years. He spent the majority of his teaching career working at Pinckney Elementary School in Fort Jackson, SC. 

John loved spending time with his family and they spent many summer days at the pool. He also loved going to Folly Beach, SC where many of his friends lived. He was an avid reader and he spent a lot of his free time reading history books. He also loved going for walks daily.

John lived most of his adult life in Columbia, SC. After the death of his wife, Mimi, he spent many years helping raise some of his grandchildren. For the last 3 years of his life, he lived in Moncks Corner, SC with his daughter, Laura, her husband, David, and their children as they helped him.

John is survived by three daughters, Laura Carter and her husband David of Moncks Corner, SC; Rebecca Roberts of Columbia, SC, Jennifer Forrester of Fountain Inn, SC; his sister, Meri Dame of Charleston, SC; his cousin, Tom Roberts of Hartselle, AL; his grandchildren, Cailin Carter, Emma Carter, Isabella McDuffie-Roberts, Dalton Lopez-Roberts, Hannah Forrester, Erin White, Braden Hahne, Mason Reeves; and 2 great-grandchildren; Violet, and Amari.

John was predeceased by his wife, Paulette "Mimi" Boykin Roberts; his mother, Marie LaRoche Roberts; and his father, John Fount Roberts of Charleston, SC.
