Mack Green Gwinn Jr., 93, of Charleston, SC, husband of Carol Picklesimer Gwinn, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
Mack was born in Greenville, SC, on May 29, 1923 to the late Mack G. Gwinn Sr. and Floralee Morris Gwinn.
After graduating from Greenville High School, he was the proud recipient of the Golden Gloves Boxing Award in 1941. Mack honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1946. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he had a long career with the REA Railroad. After retirement, he and his wife, Carol, operated the Condon’s Snack Bar until its closing. He was also the head of the custodial department at C.E. Williams School, where he was named Person of the Year by students and faculty in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mack G “Buddy” Gwinn III.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 70 years are his daughter, Kathy Gwinn Myatt (John) of Charleston; granddaughters, Angie Myatt Davis (Scott) of Macon, GA, Julie Myatt Daly (John) of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Emma and Waldon Davis, Grace and John Daly; and sister-in-law, Judy Picklesimer Newton of Cashiers, NC.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the home of John and Kathy Myatt, 1554 Boone Hall Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Mack’s memory.
