Mareike Gros (nee Von Der Heyde), of Summerville, passed away December 11, 2016 at the age of 74. She was born in Germany in 1942 to Margarethe and Hans Von Der Heyde, the youngest of three daughters. In her 20’s, she moved to Paris, France where she met her beloved Danny. Three children later, the family immigrated to The US. Fluent in German, French, and English, Mareike enjoyed reading and was passionate about genealogy and research. She was thankful for her longtime international friendships, as they held a special place in her heart. Alzheimer's may have hijacked her mind and body but it did not define her as a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. We choose to remember the strong-willed and eloquent Mareike, Maman, Mami. Enjoy your coffee with Papi! Mareike was preceded in death by the love of her life, Daniel Gros; her sister, Heide Von Der Heyde; parents, Margarethe and Hans Von Der Heyde; and niece, Kiersten Spence. Mareike leaves behind daughter, Heide-Kathrin Abbajay (spouse, Andy and children, Alex, Sydni and Andi Abbajay); son, Sven-Axel Gros (children, Kiersten and Gerritt Gros, grandchild, Ivy Gros); son Yan-Patrick Gros (spouse, Molly and children, Daniel, Evan and Nathan Gros); sister, Ancke Spence. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caring folks at hospice and to her son Sven for giving her the care, love, respect and dignity she deserved.
