Maragret SUZANNE Docher passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Born and raised in Charleston, Suzanne was the daughter of the late Harold August Doscher and the late Margaret Adams Doscher. A 1962 graduate of Bishop England High School, she went on to graduate from nursing school at St. Vincent’s in Jacksonville, FL. She then received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina followed by a Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Denton. Suzanne dedicated 32 years to teaching at the MUSC’s College of Nursing, receiving several college and university awards. She especially enjoyed her time spent with students at the VA Hospital for their early Thursday morning clinicals. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she greatly appreciated her year sabbatical at the Berkeley Theological Union in San Francisco.
Suzanne is survived by her sister Marie Doscher Woodard and her husband Bill; nieces, Beth Woodard and her husband Dan Pyles, Jr., and Christine Woodard Balts and her husband Keith; as well as great niece, Rachel Balts and great nephew, Adam Balts. Ever loyal, she leaves behind friends from every stage and season of her life from elementary school, nursing school and beyond.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, one hour prior to the 11:30AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church's Family Life Center in Charleston, SC. A private Rite of Committal will be held at Mepkin Abbey. Memorials may be made in Suzanne Doscher’s name to a scholarship fund established in her honor at Bishop England High School, 363 Seven Farms Drive, Charleston, SC 2949 or online at Bishop England High School.
