Margaret Conger Wise, 96, formerly of Abbeville, SC, died peacefully in Charleston on June 5, 2016. Margaret was born in Carnesville, GA on November 11, 1919, and graduated from Greensboro Georgia High School in 1937. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated in 1941. She was a home demonstration agent in Washington and Danielsville, Georgia, before moving to Abbeville, SC in 1945. She taught for two years at Abbeville High School and married Robert 'Rocky' Wise on September 14, 1946. She resumed her career as the lunch room supervisor at Greenville Street School in 1952 and began a long career as a school teacher in 1954, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Abbeville Presbyterian Church and was active in church affairs. She liked to travel in her later life and was a regular on the Main Street Methodist Bus trips with the 'Good Timers' group. They made some amazing trips. She also traveled with her son Bob and his wife, Jo Anne, including a trip to England. Margaret was unfailingly cheerful and was universally loved by the hundreds of children who passed through her classroom. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Rocky, many brothers and sisters and Jo Anne, her daughter-in-law. She is survived by her son, Bob and her 2 grandchildren, Mary and Randy. A memorial service celebrating Margaret's life will be held at the Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403 on Friday, June 17th at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will follow at the home of her son, Bob Wise, at 1640 Culpepper Circle in West Ashley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Abbeville Presbyterian Church at 301 North Main Street, Abbeville, SC 29620.
