Mary Alice Hurt

Mrs. Mary Alice Hurt, 83 of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina died on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Sandpiper Nursing & Rehab in Mount Pleasant. Born Thursday, August 21, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late George Thompson and the late Annie Brown Thompson and wife of the late Emmett Eugene 'Gene' Hurt. She was a member of The Church of the Holy Communion. Surviving are daughters, Nancy Hurt Utsey (Fred) and Mary Alice Hurt Priest both of Charleston and Lisa Hurt Carter (Cliff) of Mount Pleasant, SC; son, Alan Hurt of Charleston; grandchildren, Christopher Mathewes (Beth), Endia Acanfora (Josh), Ashlee Hurt and Kaitlyn and Brandon Carter; great grandchildren, Eleanor, Gigi and Caleb Mathewes, Jude Holmes Eaton and Samuel and Ruby Acanfora and sister, Patricia T. Kinard. In addition to her loving husband, Gene, Mrs. Hurt was preceded in death by sister, Helen Cantwell; brothers, George, Jr., Walter, Luther, Charles, Preston, and Robert Thompson. The family would like to express their appreciation to Odyssey Hospice and the staff of Sandpiper Nursing and Rehab for the exceptional and loving care they extended to Mrs. Hurt during her residence on the B-Wing. A Requiem Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at The Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service.
