Mary Alice Curtis

Mary Alice Curtis, age 59, of Lima, Ohio, departed this earthly life on October 17, 2024, in Charleston, SC surrounded by the love and protection of her daughter and a compassionate medical staff.

Mary's greatest joy and proudest achievement was being a mother and grandmother. 

Born in Lima, Ohio to the late Louise and JC Brown, Mary carried forward their legacy of family devotion while creating her own unique footprint of compassion in this world.

She is survived by her husband and lifelong friend, Tony Curtis Sr. of Lima; her daughter, Nesha V. Frazier (Charleston, SC) and son, Tony Curtis Jr. (Lima) and son-in-law Corrie Frazier (Charleston, SC). 

Her role as "Ma Ma" to her four grandchildren (Diem, Lyla, Nina and Kyro Frazier) was one she embraced with enthusiasm and joy. She is also survived by her siblings Caroleena Brown (Detroit, Michigan), JC Brown Jr., Brenda Brown, and Michael Brown (all of Lima, Ohio). She was preceded in death by her brother, Dwayne Brown.

She was cherished by her family, extended family, and countless friends who were touched by her love and devotion.

To Mary, love was a verb – it was something you did with your mind, body, and spirit. 

Mary was truly a mama bear – fiercely protective and caring. While she was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren, she became a second mom to many.

To her, food was a sanctuary where love was served in generous portions. She made sure you left her presence with a full belly and heart. 

Despite facing health challenges, Mary's indomitable spirit never wavered. She met each day with gratitude, thanking God for the strength and love that sustained her. 

Her resilient nature and "figure it out" attitude served as an inspiration to those who really knew her struggles. She approached life with determination and grace, whether pursuing her goals or enjoying an evening at bingo, where she formed deep and lasting friendships.

She loved freely, without concern for return on her investment. She was generous to a fault.

Though she may not have possessed material wealth, she was rich in the things that truly mattered - love, friendship, family, and faith. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her impact on her community will be felt for generations to come.

To know Mary was to know love in its purest form. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives were brightened by her presence.
