Mary Frances Stevens Scrantom of 1Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston, SC, died on Oct 26, 2022. Born July 12, 1928, in Charleston, she was predeceased by her parents, Mary Frances Cathcart Stevens and William Smith Stevens, her husband, De Hart Gridley Scrantom, and her brother, William Smith Stevens, Jr. A member of St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church, Shallotte, NC, and the Junior League of Charleston, SC, she devoted her life as a volunteer in all the communities where she lived.
She is survived by two sons, James Jervey Ravenel, III, of Charleston, and William Stevens Ravenel of Hilton Head Island, SC, one daughter, Katherine Stevens Ravenel of Oxford, NC, and four step children, De Hart Scrantom, Jr., of Myrtle Beach, SC, John Nicholson Scrantom of Pawley’s Island, SC, Kate Scrantom Feest of Richmond, VA, and Amy Scrantom Lee of Georgetown, SC, twelve grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
The celebration of her life will be at the Bisop Gadsden Retirement Community Chapel, on Camp Road, James Island, on Monday, 14 November, 2022 at 11:30 AM. The Rev. Charles Jenkins officiating, followed by inurnment in the Bishop Gadsden columbarium adjacent to the Chapel. A reception will be held at Bishop Gadsden immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Sanctuary Fund of St, James the Fisherman, Shallotte, NC, the Resident’s Assistance Fund of Bishop Gadsden, or the Bishop Gadsden Employee’s Appreciation Fund.
