Mary Lois Stone Summers died of pancreatic cancer on Friday, November 22 surrounded by family, her close friend and her clergy. Lois was born on a farm in the Stone’s View community outside of Leitchfield, KY to Lessie Preston Stone and Lorene Berkley Wilson Stone. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Laurence (Larry) Talbott Summers; her children Marcia Summers Slott (Rick), Melissa Summers Hood (Mark) and Laurence (Talbott) Summers II (Cheri). Lois adored her four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Meredith Slott Wallner and her daughters Stella, Nora, and Marilyn; Mary Emily Slott; Ryan Delcotto (Christina) and their daughters Ella Marie and Lacey; Charles Tantillo (Maggie) and their sons Charles and John Talbott. Lois is also survived by her sister Emma Doris Stone Madden and her sisters in law Fran Summers and Judy Stone. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, particularly Melissa Hamilton (David) with whom she was especially close. Lois also leaves behind her dear friend of 62 years, Brenda Penn - Witt. Lois was predeceased by her parents, her brothers David Lee Stone and Thurman Ray Stone (Judy), her brothers in law Earl Madden and Sidney Summers. 

Lois was the first of her family to graduate high school and attend college. She was a proud alum of the University of Kentucky and her competitive spirit was on display whenever her beloved Wildcats took to the basketball court or football field. Lois held a firm and unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and was an enthusiastic participant in the life and work of Palmetto Presbyterian Church. Lois and Larry enjoyed traveling, taking approximately 20 cruises and touring extensively throughout Europe, Asia and South America. They were able to visit 67 countries in their travels. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her weekly canasta games with friends. Lois worked as a top producing realtor in Lexington, KY for many years. Lois will best be remembered for her kind heart and warm hospitality. She was a dear friend to many. A memorial service will be held at Palmetto Presbyterian Church, Mt Pleasant, SC at a later date. Donations in Lois’ memory may be made to the Palmetto Presbyterian Church or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
