Charleston – Michael Francis Bowler, 88, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Furlong Bowler; his children, Michael F Bowler III (Dianne), Susan Bowler Golembeske (Chuck), Joseph James Bowler (Petra), John Paul Bowler (Judy), Patricia Bowler Llorca (Michael), and Maureen Bowler; His Grandchildren, Matthew Bowler, Peter Michael Bowler, Bryant Bowler, Catherine Bowler and Monica Knight (Stephen), and his Great Grandchild, Kara Grace Knight. Michael was born October 6, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Michael and Mary MacDonald Bowler. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Bowler and Lawrence Bowler, and his sisters, Mary Valentino, Catherine Bowler and Jane Ann Hurford. He served in the Marine Corps in squadron VMB 423 during World War II. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1976. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. He worked for Haarmann and Reimer until 1987. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from St Joseph’s University and his Master’s Degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM, September 19, 2012, at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 6650 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC, 29418. The family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM Tuesday evening September 18, 2012, at the home of Michael and Dianne Bowler, 2359 Mac Laura Hall Avenue, Charleston, SC, 29414. Interment will be at Beaufort National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle, Building Fund.
