Michael Jay Hiester

Michael Jay Hiester, 71, of Charleston, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Born on April 24, 1952, in Santa Ana, California, Michael was the oldest son of the late Wellington and Doris Hiester. He is predeceased by sister Terrie Travers and survived by brothers Steve, Kenny and Andy, and sister Deenie White.

Michael will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife, Jan, daughters Julie and Rebecca and grandchildren Joanna and Matthew. 

In life Mike was a vibrant creative who made friends with everyone he met. He was the owner and creator of Blue Heron Glass and took great joy in sharing his love of art and glass. He was a longtime member of the James Island Yacht Club and active within the sailing community for many years. After retiring from the shop, Mike could always be found out in the garden and feeding the birds. 

A celebration of life for family and friends to honor Mike will be planned at a later time in the fall.
