Phyllis Carey Hanes

Phyllis Carey Hanes, 94 left this life to be with her precious Jesus and family on Wednesday Jan. 3, 2024 at Ashley River Healthcare in Charleston, SC after a brief illness.

Phyllis Hanes was born on 1/2/1930 to the late William and Katherine Gilliam in Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward F. Hanes Sr. of over 50 years, and her sister Betty Gilliam.

She leaves, to cherish her memory, her devoted and loving son Chip (Tracy) Hanes, Granddaughter Amy June (Shane) Jeffers, 3 Great grandchildren Landon, Logan and Lily June, lots of nieces and nephews and plenty of friends who loved and cherished her as well.

Phyllis graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, NC and continued on to Stratford College for Women where she obtained her teaching certification.

She was also a long standing member of First Baptist of Charleston, where she taught elementary school for a few years and later worked in the office until she retired. In her later years she attended Charleston Baptist where she made many more wonderful friends.

She was a strong woman of faith, who loved reading, writing and memorizing scripture. She loved her Jesus and was truly a beautiful woman inside and out. She will be missed terribly!
