Ron Richardson, born in Charleston, South Carolina, on November 25, 1938, passed peacefully
into the arms of his Lord and Savior on November 19, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held on
December 11, 2021, eleven o’clock am, at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow (Preach) and Adelle Richardson, Sr. He
leaves behind his devoted wife of 33 years, Paula J. Richardson and three children, Dr. Andrea
Richardson, Karen (John) Tyler, and Brooks (Elizabeth) Richardson. He was a loving Pops to six
grandchildren, Austin, Hannah, Claire, Cate, Anna, and Charlie, and brother to Woodrow
Richardson, Jr.
Ron resided in Pawleys Island, South Carolina and was a member of Pawleys Island Presbyterian
Church where he served as Minister of Music for over a decade. Ron worked as a real estate
agent in the area and has been with the Litchfield Company since 2002. Ron was an incredible
salesman and took the time to get to know his clients and match them with their needs. Ron had a
deep passion for music and was a gifted teacher. He used his gifts to serve the Lord in churches
across the country, inspiring children, youth, and adults to create music and worship together. He
could coax the most beautiful music from any choir and brought an infectious joy and
commitment to detail to each project he tackled. He earned a Bachelors of Arts Music degree at
Mercer University, and later graduated with an advanced music studies degree from Southern
Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He then took his first full time position as
a Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tennessee. Ron later continued his
service in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he directed music at Calvary Baptist, including his
beloved College Choir of more than 50 members, many of whom remained lifelong friends. First
Baptist Church of Norman, Oklahoma became his next church family, and years later, Ron and
Paula met and married there in 1988. They moved to Pawleys Island in 1997 and have made
friends here that have become family, enjoyed many summer and family visits, opening their
home to all to make memories for a lifetime.
Ron never met a stranger. He had the unique ability to capture one’s life story as well as the
hearts and minds of everyone he met. Over the years, Ron pursued many interests and hobbies.
In his early years, he enjoyed raising and breeding horses and sharing this passion with his
family. He was a prolific writer of music and stories, incredible salesman, musician, and actor, as
well as an avid golfer, tennis player, and sailor. He enjoyed many golfing trips and tennis
tournaments over the years and made many friends along the way. Ron also loved to travel and
enjoyed visiting friends in Scotland and England. No matter his location, Ron shared his heart,
talents, and faith with all he encountered.
