Russell Lee Brooks

Russell Lee Brooks (Russ), born on April 1,1952 in St. Louis, MO, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and honored veteran, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024 at the age of 72, surrounded by his loving family. 

He leaves behind a life filled with love, joy and lasting memories that will be cherished forever. He is survived by his wife, Karen K. Brooks (née Nolden), two children, Kelly L. Brooks and Jason L. Brooks (Kristina Brooks) and seven grandchildren, Morris, Brandon, Amber, Sydney, Natalie, Nolden, and Penelope, each of whom he encouraged and adored and his brother Carl Brooks. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nina (née Hedgcoth) Brooks. 

Russ dedicated 24 honorable years of service to the United States Air Force, retiring with the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant. His career as a Flight Engineer on the C-141A and B models included vital SOL II missions. He served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield, and his service extended to the VC-137 presidential executive jets, where his expertise and leadership were invaluable to the travel of our nation’s executive leadership. 

Russ was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10256 Goose Creek as well as a Gold Legacy Member. He held numerous post and district positions including Allstate Post Commander, Allstate and All American District One Commander. Russ was also a life member of VFW National Home. 

Russell's life was one of dedication—to his family, his country, and his community. He will be deeply missed. His memory will forever be treasured by those who had the honor of knowing him. 

A celebration of his life will be held on January 4, 2024 from 2–5pm at VFW Post 10256.  Funeral services will be held at a later date at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or VFW National Home. 

Rest in peace, Russ. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved you.
