Stanley Edward LaTorre, 74, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal rest Sunday, January 26, 2014. Stanley was born October 1, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina, to Edward Rutledge and Thelma All LaTorre. Stanley graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science Degree on May 29, 1962. He graduated from Duke University with a Master of Divinity Degree on June 3, 1968. He joined the Armed Forces, Army Branch on July 8, 1973 and after 21 years+ of service as a Chaplain and Hospital Ministries retired on July 31, 1992. While in the service, Stanley was awarded the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal 1st OLC; Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal W/1 Service Star; Army Service Ribbon; and Overseas Service Ribbon. Stanley ultimately resided on Edisto Island, South Carolina where he enjoyed “retirement†by founding the Edisto Island Community Church. He was a happy, involved resident of Edisto Island and formed many long lasting friendship bonds which he held very dear. Surviving are many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, brother, mother and father.
