Teresa Smoak lived her life in color. She truly and completely lived and loved the entire spectrum of life, and touched so many lives along the way. Teresa loved babies - she helped bring them into the world through her caring nursing expertise and assisted countless new mothers who turned to her for advice. She was an amazing teacher and willingly shared her wisdom with others. She spent many years as a compassionate hospice nurse and caregiver. She fiercely and instinctively championed their needs and rights while tending to them and their families with grace and kindness in their final days. Teresa had a light within that shined brightly. She was a strong, smart, caring woman. She was a loving mother, a great friend, and a gift to those who knew her. Her Ya Ya’s, many Circular members, and her Supper Circle were some of her closest friends. She filled her life, home, and garden with special and beautiful items that were important to her. Violets were her favorite flower and Sophie was her beloved kitty. She had an all-consuming passion for everything. Those who were blessed to be in her life felt grabbed by her. She knew us. Her compassion and joy live on in all those she touched. She died peacefully at home on March 6 and leaves her partner, Lea and her son, Josh and other family and friends to carry on with grace and love. A celebration of her life will be held at Circular Congregational Church on her birthday, June 9. Donations to Respite Care Charleston, Lutheran Hospice, or the Alzheimer’s Association are gratefully accepted.
