Virginia “Ginny” Blank Bowen, age 90, a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend; entered Eternal Life on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at her home in Byrnes Downs with her loving husband, Lewis F. Bowen, by her side.
Ginny grew up on Water Street in downtown Charleston and on Stocker Dr. in Windermere, the daughter of Caroline Enid and Lloyd C. Blank. She graduated from St. Andrews Parish High School, where she was a cheerleader, performed in Fess’ musicals, and met & later married her high school sweetheart in 1950. They settled West of the Ashley, starting their family, and becoming members John Wesley Methodist Church. They were both extremely active with the church and the community at large, created Charleston Silhouettes, and stayed active with the Charleston Crafters Guild until recently.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lewis; 4 children: Cyndi Bowen, Linda Sexton, Lewis, Jr., and Karen Strickland; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her sister and best friend Barbara B. Gilchrist, her brother Leonard Blank, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Our family wishes to express our Sincere Thanks to the angels of Roper St. Francis Home Health and Roper Hospice, who took care of our mom with amazing compassion and love. We will be forever grateful.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, June 5, 2021 at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church fund, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
