William Clay 'Clay' Evans Sr.

William 'Clay' Evans, Sr. died November 8, 2016 at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in downtown Charleston. Born in Charleston on March 22, 1963, Clay was the son of Mrs. Patricia Morris Jackson and Mr. Kenneth Marshall Evans. Clay enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school, serving his country for 10 years. He then worked as a public servant for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. Most recently, Clay was employed as a security officer for Allied Barton. He graduated from Middleton High School and remained a proud alumni until his death. His infectious smile was contagious and easily lit up a room wherever he was. He loved boating, old cars, dancing and enjoyed the beach and landscaping. Always sociable, Clay was loved by and loved many people. Known as 'Poppy' to his beloved grandsons, Kameron, Jacob, and Luke Conrad, he adored spending time with them. Along with his precious grandsons, Clay is survived by his parents Mrs. Patricia Morris Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall Evans (Savola), a brother Russel 'Rusty' E. Evans; his children, Jennifer Evans Conrad (Kevin) and William Clay 'CJ' Evans, Jr.; a nephew, John Russel 'Rus' Evans; step-siblings, Kay McCants, Marie Cox, Mary McCants and Eddie McCants; devoted long-time friends, Lynn Armstrong, Todd and Gini Marshall, Bruce Nelson, Bruce Keck, Chel Gordon, Maraia Johnson and Ed. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Michael 'Mike' Paul and Kenneth 'Kenny' Myrle Evans. At Clay's request there will not be a Memorial Service but a 'celebration' of his life, these arrangements will be made at a later date.
