William Gary Facteau

Goose Creek, SC- William Gary Facteau (Red), 71 of Goose Creek SC, died on Wednesday, February 26th, 2014 at Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Charleston SC with his family by his side. He was born on January 27th, 1943 in Plattsburgh, NY, the son of Alfred and Theresa (Reeves) Facteau. In 1960, he enlisted in the United States Army, the 82nd Airborne Division. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was there, he met the love of his life, Betty Rae Davis. They were married on December 13th, 1960 in Dillon, SC. He served in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1963 and returned to Plattsburgh, NY with his family. Gary was a superintendent for Tracy Trombley Construction for many years before retiring and moving to Summerville, SC in 1997. After moving to Summerville, he decided to return to work as a superintendent for Newton Construction in Charleston, SC. He also played guitar and played in local bands with his wife, such as Smokey and the Bandits and Midnight Special. Gary was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Joseph Facteau and Randy Facteau and his Grandson, Bradley W. Brown. He is survived by four children, Terri Lynn Mulcahy and her husband Joseph of Summerville, SC, Gary Wayne Facteau of Plattsburgh, NY, Keith Eric Facteau and his wife, Keala of Summerville, SC and Jodi Lee Smoot and her husband Corey also of Summerville, SC. Grandchildren include Michael Brown, Robin Mulcahy, Andrew Facteau, Randy Facteau, Kristina Mixon, Shannon Mulcahy, Courtney Facteau, Brittany Melton, Adam Facteau, Beth Anne Facteau, Brittany, Tyler and Kaleb Smoot and Gavin Facteau. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and by his two canine children, Benji and DJ. Gary enjoyed spending time with his wife, friends and family. Gary and Betty also had a home in Port Charlotte Florida, where they would meet their “Northern Friends” in the winter. The family would like to thank Dr. Rayna Kneuper-Hall, oncologist, for her many years of wonderful care and the supportive staff at Ralph H. Veterans Hospital 3rd floor during his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to any VA Hospital or to MUSC Children’s Hospital. A private service will be held at the family’s convenience.
