William Harrison Pearson Jr.

May 5, 1931 — January 24, 2015

William (Bud) Harrison Pearson Jr. of Seabrook Island, SC went to be with our Lord at the age of 83 on Saturday, January 24, 2015, in his home, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 5, 1931 in Bristol, Pennsylvania, Bud was the son of William Harrison Pearson Sr. and Marion DeLong Pearson. He served in the Navy on USS Walter B. Cobb APB-106 during the Korean War. Bud then graduated from Bucknell University in 1957 with a degree in Commerce and Finance. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and played football for the university. Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Anne Schoonmaker Pearson, his college sweetheart. He is survived by his daughter K. Lynn Myers of Marmora, NJ, his daughter Deborah Pearson White of Howell, Michigan, his son William H. Pearson III of San Marcos, California, and his seven grandchildren: Brittani, Tyler, Garrison, Logan, Ava, Kate, and William Harrison Pearson IV. Bud spent his entire career with the 3M Company, spanning 36 years, the majority within 3M’s Industrial Scotch-Brite Division as National Sales Manager where he made a significant difference in the lives of so many people. He retired in 1993 as Sales and Marketing Director for 3M’s Commercial Care Division. Retirement was spent on Seabrook Island where he was an avid golfer, sat on numerous committees, worked as a golf starter at Kiawah Island’s Osprey course, and a member of the Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol for 20 years. He loved the beach, reading books, traveling to see friends and family, playing dominos and gin, and gardening, especially his Myers’ Lemon trees. Last but not least, he cherished his family and his friendships. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined later. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol in order to continue the loving support that Anne and Bud fostered for sea turtle conservation. After Bud’s wife passed in 2012, even when Bud was sick, he passionately patrolled his assigned beach zones early each Sunday morning, coffee in hand, often sharing the journey with family and friends. Memorials can be sent to: Seabrook Island Turtle Patrol, Attn: Beautsie Zahrn , 1116 Summer Wind Cottages, John’s Island, SC 29455. Arrangements by PALMETTO CREMATION SOCIETY, 11 Cunnington Ave., Charleston, SC 29405, (843) 722-2555. Online condolences may be left at www.palmettocremationsociety.com
